Moitree Express (Train No. 3107) is Bangladesh's historic international cross-border train, connecting Dhaka Cantonment Station with Kolkata (India) — making it one of the few international passenger rail services in South Asia. "Moitree" means "friendship" in Bengali, symbolising the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and India. The train crosses the Darshana–Gede international border in western Bangladesh, passing through Jessore before entering Indian territory. The service was relaunched in 2008 after decades of suspension following the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War, which had severed direct Dhaka–Kolkata rail links. The Moitree Express carries both Bangladeshi and Indian passengers and requires valid passports and visas for travel. The journey covers approximately 380 kilometres and takes around 10–11 hours, including the border immigration formalities at Darshana (Bangladesh) and Gede (India). The train offers AC Chair and AC Berth classes, reflecting its premium international service status.

Train History (ইতিহাস)

The Moitree Express represents one of the most symbolically important rail services in South Asian history. Direct Dhaka–Kolkata train services existed during British colonial rule and early post-partition years, but were suspended after the 1965 war. The 2008 resumption under the name "Moitree" (Friendship) marked a new era in Bangladesh-India relations, restoring a people-to-people connection that had been broken for over four decades. The train serves diplomatic, cultural, and familial bonds between Bangladesh and West Bengal.
