Tista Express (Train No. 751) runs from Dhaka to Lalmonirhat, serving Bangladesh's northernmost rail corridor and named after the Tista River — one of the most important rivers of northern Bengal, flowing from the Himalayas through Sikkim and West Bengal before entering Bangladesh via Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts. The Dhaka–Lalmonirhat route is one of the longest intercity journeys in Bangladesh and passes through Sirajganj, Bogura, Rangpur, and Lalmonirhat. Tista Express honours the river that defines northern Bangladesh's identity — the Tista (or Teesta), which once was one of the major distributaries of the Brahmaputra before shifting course in the early 19th century. The train serves the Rangpur corridor, a region with significant agricultural importance (tobacco, jute, and potato cultivation) and historical connection to the pre-partition Bengal subdivision system. The Lalmonirhat terminus near the northern border also has strategic significance as Bangladesh's rail gateway to its northernmost territories.
