Silk City Express (Train No. 765) connects Dhaka with Rajshahi — Bangladesh's second university city, silk-weaving capital, and the gateway to the historical northwest. The name "Silk City" refers to Rajshahi's centuries-old reputation as the centre of Bangladesh's silk (muslin and rajshahi silk) industry. Covering approximately 330 kilometres, this is one of Bangladesh's most culturally significant train routes, linking the capital with the ancient Varendra region, home to UNESCO-listed sites including the Mosque City of Bagerhat and the ruins of Paharpur Buddhist monastery (both located in greater Rajshahi/Khulna region). The train offers Snigdha, Shovan Chair, and AC Berth classes. The Dhaka–Rajshahi journey takes passengers through Sirajganj and Natore, passing mango orchards and the flat wheat and paddy fields of northern Bangladesh.

The name "Silk City Express" was chosen to honour Rajshahi's historical importance as the silk production hub of Bengal — a trade that flourished for centuries under Mughal and later British patronage.
