Dhumketu Express (Train No. 769) connects Dhaka with Rajshahi, the silk capital of Bangladesh and one of its major educational hubs. "Dhumketu" means "comet" in Bengali — a name that evokes speed and brilliance, fitting for a train that aims to provide swift service on the Dhaka–Rajshahi corridor. The train complements the flagship Silk City Express (765/766) on this important northwestern route, offering an alternative schedule for the many passengers who travel between Dhaka and Rajshahi. Rajshahi is home to Bangladesh's oldest and most prestigious university (University of Rajshahi, established 1953), and the train is heavily used by academic staff, students, and researchers commuting between the two cities. The 330-kilometre journey passes through Sirajganj and Natore, traversing the flat agricultural plains of northern Bangladesh with views of mango orchards (particularly spectacular during the March–April flowering season), wheat fields, and the vast Barind Tract landscape.
