About This Journey
The Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana) is an engineering masterpiece and one of Norway's most popular tourist attractions. In just 20 kilometers, the railway descends 866 meters from the mountain station of Myrdal to the fjord village of Flåm, passing through 20 tunnels — one of which spirals 180 degrees inside the mountain.
The journey takes about an hour and offers breathtaking views of steep mountainsides, cascading waterfalls (the train stops at the thundering Kjosfossen waterfall), deep valleys, and the Aurlandsfjord. It is a masterpiece of Norwegian engineering, completed in 1940.
